During the interaction with the press, Akingboye outlined his vision for Ondo State, vowing to unlock the state's economic potential and increase its Internally Generated Revenue (IGR) to N500billion per month.
The younger brother of late Governor Rotimi Akeredolu of Ondo State, Femi Akeredolu, has ditched the incumbent Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa and endorsed the Social Democratic Party (SDP) candidate, Benson Akingboye, in the forthcoming governorship election in the state.
Akeredolu reportedly led the SDP candidate, Akingboye’s campaign team, which visited the Correspondents' Chapel of the Nigerian Union of Journalists, Oyo State council, in Ibadan, the state capital on Friday.
During the interaction with the press, Akingboye outlined his vision for Ondo State, vowing to unlock the state's economic potential and increase its Internally Generated Revenue (IGR) to N500billion per month.
He noted that with the abundant resources at its disposal, aside from oil and gas, the state had no reason to lag behind.
Akingboye stressed that if its leaders were committed to effectively implementing policies, Ondo could become a top economic powerhouse in the country.
He also asserted that he had inherited 70 percent of the political structures from his late brother’s administration, positioning him as a strong contender for the November 16 governorship election.
According to him, his decision to run was driven by a deep desire to develop Ondo State and liberate its people from poverty.
He said that if elected, he will rectify the mistakes of previous administrations and bring much-needed relief to the people of Ondo.
“The people of Ondo are suffering,” Akingboye said, adding that the state would shine again under his leadership.
“I’ve spent the last 24 years in the state, I’m a grassroots person, and my vision is packed with ideas for the state’s growth once I become governor.”
