Ogun State Governor, Dapo Abiodun, has announced that the state has approved N77,000 minimum wage for workers.

He stated this in a post on his X handle on Tuesday.

“We are pleased to announce the approval of N77,000 as the new minimum wage for the lowest-paid workers in Ogun State, effective immediately,” he said. “This decision, reached after discussions with the leadership of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC), Trade Union Congress (TUC), and the Joint Negotiating Council (JNC), reflects our commitment to improving the welfare of our workers.”

He said, “Our administration remains dedicated to alleviating the challenges faced by the people of Ogun State.

“We are also engaging with the private sector, encouraging them to adopt similar measures to ensure fair wages for their employees. We will establish a monitoring team to oversee the implementation of this policy in the private sector to prevent any discrepancies.

“We are grateful for the positive response from the organized labour leaders, who have acknowledged this new minimum wage as the highest in the country.

“This step, along with the non-taxation of the new basic salary, underscores our government’s commitment to supporting our workers and enhancing their livelihoods.”

“We believe these actions will inspire greater dedication from our workforce as we continue to work together for the progress of Ogun State,” he added.

The Nigerian government recently approved a minimum wage of N70,000, after negotiations with the organized labour.

There are expectations that more states will announce new wages in line with the agreed N70,000 minimum wage.
