Bello, in a recent statement obtained by SaharaReporters, detailed how his expulsion was tied to his role as Chief Editor of the Union of Campus Journalists during the 2008 protests against tuition hike.

The management of the University of Ibadan, Oyo State has arrested a student Kayode Bello.

Bello had accused the management of failing to comply with a 2017 court ruling that ordered his reinstatement as a legitimate undergraduate of the school.

SaharaReporters learned that the student was arrested by security personnel of the university after he granted an interview with Agido FM, narrating how the university management failed to comply with a subsisting court judgement that described his expulsion as unlawful.

Bello, in a recent statement obtained by SaharaReporters, detailed how his expulsion was tied to his role as Chief Editor of the Union of Campus Journalists during the 2008 protests against tuition hike.

He noted that his expulsion was linked to a personal vendetta by certain faculty members.

Bello explained that his complaints about inadequate facilities at the Nigerian Law School were dismissed, despite that the issues were acknowledged by officials like Mr. Osamolu Samuel, the Head of Academic Affairs.

Bello accused specific individuals, including Prof. Oluyemisi Bamgbose, Prof. Olayinka Idowu, and Prof. Isaac Adewole, of working against him due to his involvement in the 2008 protests.

SaharaReporters learned that after this newspaper published the issue last weekend, the student went to an Ibadan-based radio station, Agidigbo FM, where he granted an interview.

A source privy to the issue said following the interview, the university management started looking for the student. He was eventually arrested on Wednesday evening.

"Around 5 pm today, Kayode Bello was arrested by the security unit of the University of Ibadan fondly called Abefele for an issue still undisclosed. He was taken by three mufti-wearing security agents around the Students Union Building," a source said.

The source continued: "The scene had passers-by and onlookers who at first wanted to intervene but couldn't when a recognised security agent came into the scene.”

The spokesman for the state police command, Adewale Osifeso could not be reached for his comment on this issue.

He did not answer his calls from SaharaReporters on Wednesday evening.

He had yet to reply to a text message sent to his mobile phone line at the time of filing this report.
