He stressed that as long as the poverty situation in Africa is caused by human actions, it can only take human actions to savage the situation in the continent.

Former Nigerian President Olusegun Obasanjo has berated African leaders over the poverty situation in the continent despite the presence of adequate resources.

Obasanjo, while speaking at an event in Bauchi State, Northern Nigeria, said African leaders, not God, have advertently or inadvertently by their actions, made Africa a land of poverty.

He said with rising poverty in Africa, the world is already fed up with talking about poverty in Africa, while many African leaders are not ready to talk about poverty alleviation, wealth creation and putting in place adequate healthcare delivery systems that will make human development possible.

He stressed that as long as the poverty situation in Africa is caused by human actions, it can only take human actions to savage the situation in the continent.

The former President said, “You cannot talk of developing human capacity when you don't have what I call adequate health delivery services for your people.

“If you don't want to talk about alleviation of poverty, talk about wealth creation, I say to people, the world is fed up with talking about poverty in Africa.

“God has not created Africa to be a land of poverty. We made Africa a land of poverty, advertently or inadvertently by our leaders in Africa.

“If it is a human action, putting it right must also be a human action.”
