This incident comes barely a week after about 181 people died from a similar incident in Jigawa State.
Dozens of Cross River residents are seen in a viral video scooping fuel from a fallen tanker in the Akamkpa Local government area of the state.
The video shared by a popular journalist based in the state, Agba Jalingo, shows the residents carrying buckets filled with petrol they scooped from the fallen tanker.
A police vehicle is seen parked very close to the incident, indicating that security operatives, despite knowing the dangers, did nothing to stop the people from engaging in the reckless action.
This incident comes barely a week after about 181 people died from a similar incident in Jigawa State.
SaharaReporters last Wednesday reported that the Jigawa incident occurred around 12:30am when a fuel-laden tanker transporting petrol from Kano to Nguru in Yobe State crashed, leading to a massive explosion.
It was gathered that villagers were scooping fuel from the overturned tanker when the explosion occurred.
The State Governor, Umar Namadi said earlier this week that 181 people died, 80 others were hospitalised while 210 families were affected by the petrol tanker explosion which occurred in Majiya village in the Taura Local Government Area of the state.
He added that his government had established a committee chaired by a retired Deputy Inspector General of Police, to investigate the circumstances surrounding the explosion.
