Nigerian Senate Set To Screen Bianca Ojukwu, Other Newly Appointed Ministers By Tinubu

The Nigerian Senate will screen the seven ministerial nominees forwarded to it today (Tuesday) for confirmation by President Bola Tinubu.

He said newly appointed ministers who have been cleared by the Department of State Services, DSS, stormed his office yesterday to to submit their curriculum vitae to beat the deadline.

 

 

 

The statement read: “He stated that the nominees were already submitting relevant documents as first in the series of procedures for the screening and confirmation of ministerial nominees.

“The nominees are expected to be screened and confirmed by the Senate in compliance with Section 147 of the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria 1999 (As Amended).”

 

Last week, in a statement issued by the presidency, President Tinubu had announced the sacking of five ministers. 

 

They were; Uju-Ken Ohanenye, the former minister of Women Affairs; Lola Ade-John, the former minister of Tourism; Tahir Mamman, the minister of Education; Abdullahi Gwarzo, minister of state, Housing and Urban Development, and Jamila Ibrahim, minister of Youth Development.

 

 

 

The statement had also revealed the appointment of seven newly appointed ministers, who would still have to be confirmed by the Senate. 

 

They are; Nentawe Yilwatda, Muhammadu Dingyadi, Bianca Odumegu-Ojukwu, Jumoke Oduwole, Idi Maiha, Yusuf Abdullahi Ata, Suwaiba Ahmad.

 

The presidency had said the dismissal and appointments are part of “eight far-reaching actions to reinvigorate the Administration’s capacity for optimal efficiency pursuant of his commitment to deliver on his promises to Nigerians.”
