Speaking during an interview on CREST FM in Akure, Ajayi explained the importance of leveraging the state's resources to ensure functional education and advanced healthcare systems.
Kunle Ajayi, the African Action Congress governorship candidate, stated on Monday that Ondo State has the potential to sustain itself independently of federal allocations by harnessing its collective wealth.
Speaking during an interview on CREST FM in Akure, Ajayi explained the importance of leveraging the state's resources to ensure functional education and advanced healthcare systems.
Ajayi outlined his manifesto's focus on education, asserting that the state could implement free education at all levels, dismissing the notion that such an initiative is unattainable.
He criticised current government spending on projects he deemed unnecessary, such as extravagant judicial complexes, arguing that funds should be redirected toward industrial development and creating jobs.
"Instead of building a fence for 75 million naira or investing billions in judicial complexes, we should prioritize establishing industries that generate employment and reduce crime," he said.
Ajayi pointed to the wealth of natural resources in the state, such as cocoa and palm oil, and called for collaboration with local farmers to enhance productivity and improve the economy.
Ajayi also highlighted the urgent need for a robust healthcare system, lamenting the current state of medical facilities in Ondo.
He noted that many residents are dissatisfied with healthcare options, leading to dire situations for mothers and children who need medical attention.
"We are committed to building a collective wealth that will sustain education and healthcare for all. This is not rocket science; it requires the will to put our resources to good use," he stated, reinforcing his vision for a self-sufficient Ondo State.
