American actress, Gabrielle Union, has announced she is quitting X (formerly Twitter), citing recent changes to the platform’s terms of service and the return of "volatile figures."

"There are pivotal moments in life when we must declare that enough is enough and for me, today is that day," she shared in a post.

Union in a statement via her X account on Friday, explained that platforms like X were originally founded on authentic connections, creative expression, and respect for user privacy.

"Platforms like X were founded on authentic connections, true engagement, and creative expression, all anchored in respect for user privacy and trust," she said, adding that the platform no longer aligned with her values.

She further stated her commitment to engaging in spaces that prioritise inclusivity, respect, and integrity, noting, "I am committed to engaging in spaces that truly value inclusivity, respect, and integrity in the digital world."

Union acknowledged the need to recognise when it is time to step away, calling it "the last straw."

Union reassured her followers that she would remain active on other platforms. "You can still find me @gabunion on Instagram, Threads, TikTok, BlueSky, Spill, and Facebook (Gabrielle Union) linked in my bio," she wrote, encouraging continued engagement in spaces that promote positive vibes and meaningful connections.

Concluding her message, Union expressed her gratitude for her supporters: "Thank you all for being such an incredible part of this journey. Let's keep spreading love and light to one another in the ways that truly matter."

The statement read in parts, “There are pivotal moments in life when we must declare that enough is enough and for me, today is that day.

“Platforms like X were founded on authentic connections, true engagement, and creative expression, all anchored in respect for user privacy and trust. Yet, with the recent and upcoming changes to the terms of service and the return of volatile figures - I find myself at a crossroads, facing a direction I can no longer fully support.

"To everyone I've connected with here, thank you for the laughs, the insights, and the endless support. I am not disappearing completely.

"You can still find me @gabunion on Instagram, Threads, Tik Tok, BlueSky, Spill, and Facebook (Gabrielle Union) linked in my bio, where we can continue building meaningful connections and positive vibes.”
