Adu-Okunniyi expressed her concerns after a consultative meeting with other stakeholders to assess the election's integrity.
Olabisi Adu-Okunniyi, the deputy governorship candidate of the Labour Party in the recent Ondo State election, has strongly condemned the widespread vote buying and ballot box snatching that marred the poll.
She said the electoral commission organised a flawed process and is hence incapable of giving accountable leaders to the people of Ondo State.
Adu-Okunniyi expressed her concerns after a consultative meeting with other stakeholders to assess the election's integrity.
According to a release, she lamented that Nigeria's democracy has been reduced to a mockery, where political mandates are achieved through vote purchasing, ballot box stuffing, and result falsification.
The statement by her Media Assistant, Olubori Obafemi, said her reactions were prompted by a viral video of a local woman confessing to being paid by the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) for her vote.
Adu-Okunniyi questioned how a credible government can emerge from such a corrupt electoral process, emphasising that vote buying and induced voting are criminal offenses under Nigeria's electoral act.
The Labour Party vowed to take action, threatening mass protests and legal battles if the election results are deemed falsified or rigged.
Adu-Okunniyi urged the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to ensure the election's credibility and prevent desperate politicians from undermining the process.
She said to save democracy in Ondo State, concerned stakeholders at the meeting resolved not to go to sleep but to be more vigilant to rescue democracy from the clutches of predatory and transactional politicians.
"At the end of our Stakeholders' consultation, it was popularly resolved that an inclusive Mobilisation committee be urgently set up to initiate a political shadow team to mobilise the good people of Ondo State, especially the Youths, Civil Society and the Obi-dients to engage those is in power and put them constantly on their toes in the interest of mass prosperity of the people of Ondo State and to halt a situation, where government is employed as a business to make the people poor to be able to induce them with peanuts during elections," Olabisi-Adu stated.
