According to Omolola Odutola, the Command’s spokesperson, the incident was reported by the hotel’s Chief Security Officer (CSO), identified as Oluwole, who alerted the police about the deceased guest.

The Ogun State Police Command has confirmed the death of a man, Sunday Abidoye, whose lifeless body was discovered in a hotel room at Creestar Hotel, Sagamu, on Wednesday.

According to Omolola Odutola, the Command’s spokesperson, the incident was reported by the hotel’s Chief Security Officer (CSO), identified as Oluwole, who alerted the police about the deceased guest.

“On receiving the report, a team of detectives visited the scene and found the body of the deceased already placed in a car outside the hotel. It was being prepared to be transported to the morgue by his family,” stated Odutola.

The deceased’s brother, Jimoh Godday, revealed to the police that Abidoye had returned to Nigeria from the United States on Saturday.

He stated that he had called Abidoye on Monday, and when he received no response, he decided to visit the hotel.

"After knocking on the door multiple times without an answer, he sought assistance from the hotel manager and obtained a spare key. Upon entering the room, they discovered his brother’s lifeless body," he explained.

Various drugs and traditional medicines were reportedly found in the room, while the centre of the bed was soaked with a liquid-like substance.

A friend of the deceased, Ogunmonti Ogunwole, also confirmed that he had accompanied the deceased the previous day to purchase nine different types of medication, following complaints of illness.

The police spokesperson revealed that the deceased’s remains had been moved to the Olabisi Onabanjo University Teaching Hospital (OOUTH) morgue in Sagamu for an autopsy.

She added that the cause of death had not yet been determined and that the case would be transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (CID) for a thorough investigation.

Meanwhile, Odutola advised the public to avoid using medications without proper medical prescriptions.
