The Edo State Governor, Monday Okpebholo, has announced the indefinite suspension of recruitment into the state’s civil service.
He has also ordered a review of all recruitments conducted by his predecessor, Godwin Obaseki, between May and November 2024.
In a statement issued by the Secretary to the State Government (SSG), Musa Ikhilor, some heads of various Ministries, Departments, and Agencies (MDAs) were accused of engaging in unauthorised recruitment activities.
“The governor has received reports of clandestine recruitment activities being carried out by some commissions, boards, parastatals, and agencies within the state,” Ikhilor said.
Ikhilor added, “Preliminary investigations reveal that these bodies have been issuing backdated employment letters to favoured individuals, bypassing due process.”
The SSG emphasised the administration’s commitment to fairness and equity, stressing that all recruitment processes must be merit-based, competitive, and open to all indigenes of Edo State.
“To address this issue, the governor has directed the immediate suspension of all recruitment activities and the review of appointments made since May 2024 by commissions, boards, parastatals, and government agencies,” he added.
According to the SSG, heads of MDAs are to comply fully with the order.
