The NLC said it would then comply with the directives of the National Executive Council (NEC) of the Nigerian Labour Congress (NLC) and Trade Union Congress (TUC) and commence an indefinite strike action by midnight on Tuesday, December 10, 2024.

The Niger State organised labour has warned that any attempt by the state government to back out of the agreement of 15th November on the N80,000 minimum wage payment will leave the union with no other option but to go on strike.

The NLC said it would then comply with the directives of the National Executive Council (NEC) of the Nigerian Labour Congress (NLC) and Trade Union Congress (TUC) and commence an indefinite strike action by midnight on Tuesday, December 10, 2024.

The warning follows a series of meetings held by the Niger State organised labour to address various critical issues affecting workers.

These include the implementation of the minimum wage agreement, the payment of November 2024 salaries for Local Government Area (LGA) workers, excessive PAYEE deductions for state workers, delays in the payment of annual leave grants for LGA workers, and unpaid wage awards for workers in Ibrahim Badamasi Babangida Universiry, Lapai (IBBUL) and 25 LGAs.

This was contained in a communiqué signed by Comrade Idris A. Lafene, State Chairman of NLC, and Comrade Ibrahim Gana, State Chairman of TUC on Saturday Saturday and obtained by SaharaReporters.

During a meeting on Saturday, 7th December 2024, the Joint State Executive Council (SEC) of the NLC and TUC reviewed these concerns and issued a set of resolutions.

The SEC expressed appreciation for Governor Umar Bago's endorsement of the N80,000 minimum wage agreement, which was implemented for state employees in November 2024.

“The SEC appreciates His Excellency, Honourable Umar Mohammed Bago for endorsing the N80,000 minimum wage agreement for workers in the state and LGAs, and for implementing the agreement in November 2024 for state employees,” the communiqué stated.

The SEC, however, called for the immediate payment of November 2024 salaries for LGA workers, in line with the agreement signed on 15th November.

The SEC also expressed concerns over excessive PAYEE deductions from the November salaries of state workers and called for a review and reimbursement for affected workers.

Further, the SEC urged the state government to settle outstanding annual leave grants for LGA workers and wage award arrears for workers at IBBUL and across the 25 LGAs.

The SEC has made it clear that any failure by the government to meet these demands will result in the Organised Labour adhering to the directives of the NEC of the NLC and TUC, leading to the commencement of an indefinite strike action on 10th December 2024.
