January 30, 2025

According to the school management, the university was sanctioned for commencing the law programme in 2018 with only the approval of the National Universities Commission (NUC).

The Management of Kwara State University, Malete (KWASU), has stated that the announcement of suspension of one-year ban on admission into the university’s law programme by the Joint Admission and Matriculation Board (JAMB) is as a result of the decision of the Council for Legal Education (CLE) to sanction the university.

According to the school management, the university was sanctioned for commencing the law programme in 2018 with only the approval of the National Universities Commission (NUC).

The university made this known in a statement issued by its Acting Director University Relations, Dr. Saeedat Aliyu, while reacting to the JAMB’s announcement of the admission suspension into the institution’s law programme.

SaharaReporters had reported that JAMB on Wednesday announced the suspension of admissions for law programmes at KWASU, the Nigerian Police Academy in Kano state, Pastor Enoch Adeboye’s Redeemer’s University in Osun state and five other universities for the 2025/2026 academic session.

The suspension was sequel to the Council of Legal Education’s (CLE) suspension of the Bachelor of Laws (LL.B) programme at the affected institutions due to non-compliance with regulatory procedures.

Reacting to the announcement, the KWASU spokesperson said, “The Management of Kwara State University, Malete, wishes to state that JAMB's announcement of a 1-year ban on admission into KWASU's law programs is as a result of the decision of the Council for Legal Education (CLE) to sanction KWASU for commencing the law program in 2018 with only the approval of the National Universities Commission (NUC).

“KWASU currently has full accreditation from both the National Universities Commission (NUC) and the Council for Legal Education (CLE) to run 2 undergraduate law programs: Common Law and Common and Islamic Law.

“Management wishes to state that the 1-year ban does not in any way affect students currently running their programs in the University's Faculty of Law.

“Kwara State University holds all regulatory institutions in very high regard and will comply with the sanctions imposed by CLE by not offering admission into the 2 law programs in the coming 2025/2026 admission session.

“Prospective candidates into these programs may apply to other equally excellent programs offered by KWASU as all programs in the institution have all the required accreditations.”
