Eyewitnesses reported that the incident occurred during the soldiers' routine monthly road jog.

No fewer than four soldiers reportedly died, while several others were injured in the early hours of Friday when a suspected drunk driver crashed into a group of soldiers jogging outside Myoung Barracks in the Morocco area of Shomolu, Lagos State.

Eyewitnesses reported that the incident occurred during the soldiers' routine monthly road jog.

Priscilla, a local resident, told The PUNCH that a Toyota vehicle carrying three young men was speeding when it plowed into the jogging troops.

“The vehicle was moving at full speed before it hit the soldiers. It was a terrible sight,” she said.

Following the crash, the occupants of the vehicle allegedly attempted to flee the scene but were swiftly apprehended by bystanders. Witnesses said the trio was beaten, and their car was vandalised in retaliation.

According to The PUNCH, an eyewitness reported that one of the young men involved in the incident was stabbed.

She explained that the incident occurred early morning while soldiers were on their routine monthly road walk near the barracks.

"A group of young men allegedly crashed into the soldiers with their vehicle, leading to chaos.

"Four soldiers died on the spot, and many others sustained serious injuries," the eyewitness said.

"After the crash, the young men tried to flee, but they were caught and severely beaten. Their vehicle was also vandalised. One of them was stabbed by the soldiers."

The incident has reportedly caused panic among residents in the area.

Meanwhile, efforts to reach the Deputy Director of Army Public Relations for the 81 Division, Olabisi Ayeni, and the spokesperson for the Lagos State Police Command, Benjamin Hundeyin, for comments failed.
