The Ondo State Commissioner for Finance, Mrs. Omowunmi Isaac, has been captured publicly spraying money at an event, an act that violates Nigeria’s anti-spraying law.

In a viral video obtained by SaharaReporters on Wednesday, the commissioner is seen spraying naira notes, sparking widespread criticism and calls for legal action against her.

The video shows the commissioner spraying N500 notes on musicians after previously being given N1000 notes by an unidentified man.

Under Section 21(3) of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) Act 2007, spraying, dancing on, or stepping on the naira is classified as currency abuse and is punishable by law.

The CBN and law enforcement agencies have repeatedly warned against this practice, emphasizing the need to protect the naira’s integrity.

Popular crossdresser and social media personality, Idris Okuneye, popularly known as Bobrisky, had served jail term for abusing the naira by spraying money in public.

The sentencing came after a viral video showed him flamboyantly spraying money at an event, prompting authorities to take legal action.

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) arrested and prosecuted Bobrisky, leading to his conviction. The court handed him a jail term without the option of a fine, reinforcing the government’s stance on protecting the integrity of Nigeria’s currency.

When SaharaReporters contacted the EFCC spokesperson, Dele Oyewale, via his mobile line for comments on the video and possible actions to be taken, he said the agency will investigate it.
