He was allegedly caught in the act of attempting to steal Amole’s car battery when she confronted him.
The Lagos State Police Command has filed a three-count charge against one Friday Onu for allegedly assaulting a female commercial bus driver, Mrs. Yetunde Amole, in the Lekki Phase 1 area of the state.
Onu was arrested after a video of him physically assaulting Amole went viral on social media. According to the Command’s Public Relations Officer, CSP Benjamin Hundeyin, the incident occurred on Monday, April 7, 2025, near the Oriental Hotel in Lagos.
He was allegedly caught in the act of attempting to steal Amole’s car battery when she confronted him. The confrontation escalated into a violent attack, which was filmed and widely circulated online.
“The Command condemns this act in the strongest terms and wishes to update the public on the actions already taken,” Hundeyin had said in a statement issued on Thursday.
However, in the charge sheet by SP Ayeni Franca, the Divisional Crime Officer of the Maroko Division and obtained by SaharaReporters, the police outlined the charges as follows:
"Count 1: That you, Friday Onu 'M', on the 7th day of April 2025 at about 12:00 hrs at Sand Field Bus Stop, Lekki Phase 1, Lagos, within the Lagos Magisterial District, did conduct yourself in a manner likely to cause a breach of the public peace by dragging one Yetunde Amole 'F', a commercial bus driver, from her vehicle with registration number EPE 306 YJ and tearing her shirt. You thereby committed an offence punishable under Section 168(d) of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, Nigeria, 2015.
"Count 2: That you, Friday Onu 'M', on the same date, time, and place, with intent to commit a felony, did attempt to steal a motor battery valued at N90,000, the property of Yetunde Amole 'F', and thereby committed an offence punishable under Section 406(1)(2) of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, Nigeria, 2015.
"Count 3: That you, Friday Onu 'M', on the same date, time, and place, did unlawfully assault one Yetunde Amole 'F' by hitting her on the face and back with your fists, causing her bodily harm. You thereby committed an offence punishable under Section 173 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, Nigeria, 2015."
