Fresh Batch Of Over 200 Nigerian Citizens Rescued From Libya

The returnees were received by the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) and other stakeholders at the Murtala Muhammed International Airport, Cargo Terminal, Ikeja, Lagos.

The Nigerian government, in collaboration with international and local agencies, on Monday repatriated 203 vulnerable Nigerians from Libya.

According to a statement by NEMA, the returnees arrived at the airport at exactly 19:00 hours aboard a chartered Al Buraq Boeing flight, with registration number 5A-BAC.

“The returnees comprised 50 males, 96 females, 29 Children and 28 infants,” the agency said.

“They (returnees) were offered necessary assistance by IOM with the support of NEMA, NCFRMI, Nigeria Immigration, DSS, Port Health and Nigeria Police Force.”

The agency also confirmed that two medical cases were recorded among the returnees.

“There were 2 medical cases, and the patients were transferred to New Ikeja Hospitals for treatment,” NEMA stated.

Following their arrival, the returnees underwent standard profiling and biometric registration before being relocated to the Igando IDPs Resettlement Center for the next phase of their reintegration.

“After the mandatory profiling and biometric exercise, the returnees were moved to Igando IDPs resettlement center for further reintegration programme,” NEMA stated.

NEMA noted that the repatriation exercise is part of ongoing efforts by the Nigerian Government and its partners to rescue, rehabilitate, and reintegrate Nigerian nationals stranded abroad, particularly those facing harsh conditions in countries like Libya.
