This decision follows a series of meetings and extensive negotiations with key stakeholders, including the Chief Justice of Nigeria and the Federal Ministry of Labour and Employment.

The Judiciary Staff Union of Nigeria (JUSUN) has announced the suspension of its nationwide industrial action, which began on June 2, 2025.

This decision follows a series of meetings and extensive negotiations with key stakeholders, including the Chief Justice of Nigeria and the Federal Ministry of Labour and Employment.

The union disclosed the resolution in a communiqué issued on Tuesday, June 3, 2025, following deliberations on the pressing issues that prompted the strike. The central grievance was the Federal Government’s delay in releasing judicial funds and fulfilling agreed wage adjustments.

The communique said an agreement was reached: "That the JUSUN oblige the noble intervention of the Honourable, the Chief Justice of Nigeria, Hon. Justice Kudirat Motunmori Olatokunbo Kekere-Ekun, GCON, the Honourable Minister of Labour and Employment Alhaji Muhammad Maigari Dingyadi, NLC and other Stakeholders.

"To give the Honourable Chief Justice of Nigeria and the relevant stakeholders to engage the Federal Government of Nigeria to ensure the release of funds to the Judiciary within the period of one month.

SaharaReporters reported on Saturday, May 31, that the Federal High Court chapter of the Judiciary Staff Union of Nigeria (JUSUN) had declared an indefinite nationwide strike. The strike was called in protest against the government’s failure to implement previously agreed wage increases for judicial workers.

In a circular dated May 30, the JUSUN leadership ordered the closure of Federal High Courts across the country, effective Monday, June 2. The union’s Public Relations Officer, Mr. Gideon A. Maku, stated that the decision to embark on the strike came after negotiations between the national leadership of JUSUN and the Minister of Labour and Employment collapsed on Friday, May 30, 2025.

According to Maku, the strike is to protest the non-payment of five months’ arrears of wage awards, the failure to implement the N70,000 national minimum wage, and the refusal to implement the 25/35 per cent salary increase.

On Monday morning, lawyers and litigants were left stranded as members of JUSUN locked the gates of the Federal High Court in Abuja, making good on their threat to embark on an indefinite nationwide strike.
