There have been allegations of fraud, tax evasion, and money laundering involving Alpha Beta and Tinubu, brought forward by Dapo Apara, a former managing director of the firm.

A wave of outrage is sweeping through Alpha Beta Consulting LLP following fresh revelations of systemic discrimination, favouritism, and inhumane treatment of long-serving staff members by the company’s top leadership.

Alpha Beta is a tax consulting firm that has been linked to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, who is a former governor of Lagos State.

The company has been involved in managing Internally Generated Revenue (IGR) for Lagos State, reportedly receiving a 10% commission on the collected taxes.

There have been allegations of fraud, tax evasion, and money laundering involving Alpha Beta and Tinubu, brought forward by Dapo Apara, a former managing director of the firm.

Apara claimed that Tinubu had concealed his control over the company and that it was being used for financial misconduct. In 2022, reports indicated that both parties were discussing an out-of-court settlement regarding the dispute.

In the early 2000s, as governor of Lagos, Tinubu awarded the newly established Alpha Beta Consulting a contract to collect taxes in Nigeria’s commercial hub, a contract it still holds today.

According to internal sources, several staff members who dedicated over two decades of their lives to the firm were given meagre gratuity payouts ranging from N400,000 to N500,000, while close allies of the Group Managing Director, Otunba Akinsanya Doherty, enjoyed golden exits, including full salaries for one-year post-retirement.

According to sources, they were also immediately re-engaged as highly paid contractors.

SaharaReporters learned that among those shortchanged are Mr. Gbenga Iyilade, who retired in 2024 with only N500,000, and Mr. Akeem Bakare (aka Tashare), along with Mr. Gabriel Okojoko, both of whom received just N400,000 despite serving for over 20 years.

“Imagine working for over 20 years and getting just N400,000 as gratuity, while those close to the GMD who were earning millions monthly get paid the same salary for a full year after exit, and are still retained as contractors,” an aggrieved staff member said.

“That’s not just unfair, it’s inhuman.”

The internal rot doesn’t end there. The company’s Health Maintenance Organisation (HMO) package, which was capped at N100,000 annually, reportedly left employees stranded when they needed medical care the most.

A confidential email sent by a staff member, Tosin Ibiyeye, also flagged clear discriminatory patterns in the HMO allocations.

The GMD’s cousin, Mrs. Olubunmi Morenike, was employed in 2020 and skyrocketed to General Manager by 2022. Similarly, his former Mobil Oil colleague, Dr. Kolade Fajuyigbe, joined Alpha Beta in late 2018 as Deputy General Manager and was promoted to General Manager in 2022, despite being over 60 years old.

Also on the privileged list are Olumide Hezekiah Idowu, allegedly planted as Chief Technology Officer despite lacking technical credentials, and Ige Anjolaoluwa-Amusan, who insiders say had no relevant experience but was handed top-level duties.

“These appointments have nothing to do with merit or performance. It’s all about who you know and how close you are to the GMD. Everyone else is disposable,” the source added.

SaharaReporters attempted to contact the company's Human Relations Officer, Ige Anjolaoluwa, for comments regarding these allegations. She told SaharaReporters last Thursday, "Can you call me later? We are trying to mourn a staff member. Call me back, and I will respond to your questions."

Since then, she has not answered repeated calls. On Wednesday, June 11, her phone rang multiple times, but she declined to answer.
