WAEC Portal Goes Down After 2025 WASSCE Results Release, Candidates Frustrated
August 6, 2025

The development has left many candidates unable to access their results amid mounting anticipation.

The West African Examinations Council (WAEC) has announced a temporary shutdown of its online result checker portal, citing technical glitches.

The development has left many candidates unable to access their results amid mounting anticipation.

The examination body made this known in a brief statement on Wednesday evening.

“WAEC hereby informs the general public that the result checker portal @waecdirect.org is temporarily shut down due to technical issues,” the Council stated in a post on X.

It, however, assured that efforts are underway to restore access to the portal swiftly.

“However, the Council is working assiduously to ensure that candidates are able to access their results in the next 24 hours,” it said.

“We apologize for any inconvenience this might have caused you.”

The disruption comes just days after WAEC released the results of the 2025 West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE).

The Council had reported a slight improvement in candidate performance compared to previous years, with over 65% of candidates securing credits in five subjects, including English and Mathematics.

Thousands of candidates across Nigeria have since been attempting to access their results via the portal, which may have contributed to the technical strain.

However, the Council did not reveal the exact nature of the technical issues.

This is not the first time WAEC has faced online infrastructure challenges.

In previous years, users have experienced intermittent downtimes or slow response times, especially during peak result-checking periods.

Meanwhile, affected students have taken to social media to express concern and frustration over the delay, urging WAEC to expedite the restoration process.
