The Ondo State Police Command has arrested two students of Adekunle Ajasin University, AAUA, Akungba-Akoko, in connection with the alleged drugging and sexual assault of a 20-year-old female student.
A vigilant neighbour reportedly intervened after hearing unusual noises, finding the victim unconscious alongside the male suspect.
The victim was immediately taken for urgent medical attention and later referred to a specialist hospital, where she is now recovering.
According to the Command’s spokesperson, Olushola Ayanlade, preliminary investigations indicate that the victim was invited to the residence of her long-time friend, 19-year-old Queen Sodo, who is also a student at the university.
The victim, trusting the friendship that began in secondary school and continued into university, accepted a drink offered by Sodo, which was later discovered to have been laced with a sedative.
Ayanlade explained that the victim became incapacitated after consuming the drink. Queen Sodo reportedly left the room and later brought in a male accomplice, remaining nearby while the alleged assault took place.
Both suspects have reportedly confessed to their involvement, detailing their respective roles in the incident.
Key evidence, including the drugged beverage, has been recovered and verified by the victim and the suspects.
The suspects remain in police custody and are scheduled to be transferred to the Gender Desk of the Ondo State Police Command for further investigation and prosecution.
The Command reassured the public that all offenders, regardless of their relationship to the victim, would be held accountable under the law.
Ayanlade also urged parents and guardians to counsel their children on exercising caution in personal relationships, emphasising that even longstanding friendships could be manipulated for criminal purposes.
