In a statement jointly signed by the branch Chairman, Comrade Emmanuel Waniko, and Secretary, Comrade Sule Suberu, the union accused the state government of reneging on its promise to pay the October 2024 salary arrears and the 2025 leave bonus, obligations they said had been repeatedly delayed despite earlier assurances.

The Judiciary Staff Union of Nigeria (JUSUN), Kogi State Branch, has declared an indefinite strike, effectively grounding judicial activities across the state following the Kogi government’s alleged failure to fulfill financial commitments made to workers.

JUSUN said the latest action was triggered by persistent insincerity from the government, noting that a previous strike was suspended on the strength of an approval allegedly issued by Governor Ahmed Ododo and relayed through the Heads of Courts.

According to the union, that promise has now proven empty.

JUSUN consequently ordered all judiciary workers in the state to down tools effective Thursday, 4 December 2025, warning that no staff should be found performing official duties until further notice.

The union insisted that no resumption would take place unless the outstanding arrears and leave bonuses are fully paid.

The shutdown is expected to paralyse court operations statewide, potentially affecting hearings, bail applications, administrative processes, and other essential judicial services.

“Fellow Comrades, the Union salutes your courage and support in the phase of an ongoing struggle for the payment of our October 2024 arrears, and 2025 Leave Bonus.

“You will recall that the last strike was suspended before its commencement as a result of the purported approval by the Governor, which was communicated to us through the Heads of Courts.

“It’s rather unfortunate that the Governor’s promise of payment could not be fulfilled, even as we have waited patiently to see its fulfilment. The Union wishes to express our disappointment in that regard and has directed as follows:

“That, effective from Thursday, 4 December 2025, all staff of Kogi State Judiciary should proceed on an indefinite strike.

“That no staff should be seen engaging in any official functions during this period until further notice.

“That the payment of October 2024 arrears and 2025 leave bonus must be paid before resumption.

“The Union once again appreciates your continued support throughout the struggle. Aluta Continua; Victoria Acerta," the union added.
