OAU Final-Year Student Alleges University Removed His Name From Graduation List For Protesting Wike’s Visit

OAU Final-Year Student Alleges University Removed His Name From Graduation List For Protesting Wike’s Visit

Documents obtained by SaharaReporters also confirm that Oladepo successfully paid his convocation fee.

Joshua Temitope Oladepo, a final-year student of Obafemi Awolowo University (OAU), Ile-Ife, has accused the institution of deliberately removing his name from the 2025 graduation list as punishment for participating in a student protest against former Minister of the FCT, Nyesom Wike, during his controversial visit to the campus on June 5, 2025.

Oladepo, who spoke with SaharaReporters, said he attempted to log into the university’s convocation portal on Thursday evening only to receive a shocking notification that his name had been excluded from the list of graduating students.

"I was one of the students arrested and detained when Wike came to our campus and we resisted. That was on June 5th, 2025,” he said.

"This evening, I tried to log in into my convocation portal but I was told that my name has been excluded from the graduation list. This wasn't so initially. As a matter of fact, I was able to make payments for the convocation–the sum of N40 000. This act can be linked to our resistance against the coming of Wike," he said.

Convocation

Documents obtained by SaharaReporters also confirm that Oladepo successfully paid his convocation fee.

His Remita payment receipt shows a transaction of N40,000, made on Sunday, November 23, 2025, with RRR: 171379218766.

Further findings reveal that OAU had already issued Oladepo an official Notification of Results, dated October 3, 2025.

The document, signed by Y.O. Akinyele (Mrs.), Deputy Registrar of the Examinations and Records Division, certifies that he completed his academic programme in the Department of Political Science, Faculty of Social Sciences.

The Deputy Registrar said, "This is to certify that OLADEPO Joshua Temitope was a student in the Department of Political Science, Faculty of Social Sciences, Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile-Ife, Osun State, Nigeria.

“The candidate successfully completed an academic programme and was awarded the degree of B.Sc Political Science with the grade of Second Class Honours (Upper Division), as approved by the University Senate, on 18th September, 2025.

"His/Her certificate is being prepared and will soon be ready for collection. Please extend to the candidate all assistance that the holder of a degree certificate may require.”

"We hope you find this information sufficient for you to make a decision on the candidate's application. However, if you require additional information regarding his/her academic records in the University, or have questions and/or concerns, please contact the Registrar using the following email address: registramosulfe.edu.ng," she added.

However, despite possessing a verified result and completing his clearance steps, Oladepo insists the sudden exclusion from the convocation list is coordinated retaliation against students who resisted Wike’s presence on campus earlier in the year.

The protest led to several arrests and detentions, including his own.
