During a press briefing on Friday, the Commissioner of Police, CP Ojo Adekimi, announced the recovery of 100 rounds of live AK-47 ammunition and the arrest of four suspected arms couriers along the Gbugbu–Patigi Road in the Edu Local Government Area.

Operatives of the Kwara State Police Command have intercepted a cache of ammunition and arrested multiple suspects linked to banditry and kidnapping operations across the North-Central region.

During a press briefing on Friday, the Commissioner of Police, CP Ojo Adekimi, announced the recovery of 100 rounds of live AK-47 ammunition and the arrest of four suspected arms couriers along the Gbugbu–Patigi Road in the Edu Local Government Area.

According to the CP, a patrol team attached to the Lafiagi Area Command had flagged down a Toyota Corolla with registration number EP 434 ABC, driven by Owolaramfe Rafiu, during a routine stop-and-search operation.

Officers reportedly found the ammunition concealed among personal luggage, alongside assorted charms believed to be used for protection during illicit operations.
The other occupants of the vehicle — Musa Mohammed (20), Adam Alhaji Lawal (18), and Musa Shaibu (45) — were immediately arrested.

During preliminary interrogation, Musa Mohammed allegedly confessed that the ammunition was picked up in Nasarawa State for delivery to an unidentified contact in Gbugbu, raising fresh concerns about the movement of arms across interstate routes.
Adekimi said a coordinated effort is underway to track down the intended receiver, adding that the suspects remain in police custody while investigations continue.
In another development, the Kwara Police Command announced the arrest of Aliu Abubakar, believed to be a member of a kidnapping syndicate operating across the state’s boundary communities.

The suspect was apprehended on 3 December 2025 at the Oro-Ago Motor Park after residents alerted security operatives to his suspicious behaviour.

Police say Abubakar initially claimed he was travelling to meet a relative identified as "Zarumi," but a search of his mobile device revealed disturbing images.

According to CP Adekimi, investigators recovered photographs showing Abubakar brandishing an AK-47 rifle, along with images of three of his alleged accomplices — Buba, Auta, and Bello (alias ‘Smally’) — posing with prohibited firearms.

Additional images reportedly showed the suspect displaying large sums of money, which he allegedly confessed were proceeds from multiple kidnapping operations coordinated by his group.

The police say the suspect is already providing actionable intelligence to aid ongoing counter-kidnapping operations in the area.

CP Adekimi reaffirmed the Command’s commitment to dismantling criminal networks across Kwara State, urging residents to continue supplying credible information to security agencies.
