CLCN also welcomed the presence of a US-based fact-finding team, noting their role in bringing international attention to the escalating security challenges in Nigeria.

The Catholic Laity Council of Nigeria (CLCN) has joined the Catholic Bishops' Conference of Nigeria (CBCN) in condemning the worsening security situation across the country, particularly in the Northern and Middle Belt regions.

In a statement released on Wednesday, the council decried the recent violent attacks against innocent citizens, highlighting the atrocities that have left communities devastated and lives lost.

The release was signed by Sir Ambrose Obioha, National President of CLCN, and Mr. Francis Ojo Olayinka, National Secretary-General.

The council commended the Catholic Bishops of Makurdi, Gboko, and Katsina-Ala in Benue State for their calm and steadfast leadership during the crisis, acknowledging their efforts to maintain peace and protect their faithful amidst escalating violence.

“We deeply appreciate their unwavering commitment to peace and justice,” the group said.

CLCN also welcomed the presence of a US-based fact-finding team, noting their role in bringing international attention to the escalating security challenges in Nigeria.

“We condemn the senseless violence and bloodshed that have desecrated our common humanity,” the group said.

“We stand in solidarity with our Christian brothers and sisters, and all innocent citizens who have fallen victim to these atrocities.”

The council called on the government to act urgently and decisively to safeguard the lives and property of all citizens.

It urged authorities to “to take immediate and concrete actions to address the security crisis,” emphasizing that the protection of Nigerians must remain a top priority.

In addition, CLCN appealed to all Nigerians to reject violence and hatred, promoting unity and peaceful coexistence.

The council stressed that national leaders must prioritize the welfare and security of citizens to build a nation where everyone can live in peace, dignity, and prosperity.

“We are for peace and brotherly living,” the statement concluded.
