The statement followed reports alleging that gunmen had sacked the community, injured residents, and looted properties.
The Lagos State Police Command has refuted reports claiming that armed men attacked Ajebo Community, near Agbowa in the Ikosi-Ejirin Local Council Development Area (LCDA), describing the story as “mischievous, untrue, and misleading.”
The statement followed reports alleging that gunmen had sacked the community, injured residents, and looted properties.
In a press release, the police clarified that the incident was a land dispute between two families in the community, which led to “chaos and confusion,” not an armed invasion.
“Normalcy was promptly restored, and residents continued with their daily activities,” the statement said.
According to the police, a joint intervention team comprising tactical squads, anti-riot units, and conventional officers from the Agbowa Division and Lagos Command Headquarters was immediately deployed to contain the situation.
The police said no lives were lost, no injuries recorded, and no firearms were discharged during the incident.
Commissioner of Police, CP Olohundare Jimoh, ordered an immediate investigation. Preliminary findings confirmed that the clashes were family-related, and the leaders of the feuding parties have been served police invitations to report for questioning.
The Lagos Police Public Relations Officer, SP Abimbola Adebisi, emphasized that peace has been restored and is being sustained in the community.
“The incidents stemmed from a land dispute between two families within Ajebo Community that led to chaos and confusion. Upon receiving the report, joint police teams—including Tactical Squads, PMF Anti-Riots personnel, conventional police from Agbowa Division, and other special units, were immediately deployed. Normalcy was promptly restored, and residents continued their livelihoods,” the statement read.
“Preliminary investigation revealed that the disturbances were family-related, not an attack by gunmen. No lives were lost, no injuries recorded, and no firearms were discharged during the clashes. Peace has since returned, and the leaders of the parties involved have been served invitations to report to the Police for investigation.”
“They have been strongly cautioned to remain peaceful, with the full weight of the law threatened against any further troublemaking,” the statement added.
CP Jimoh reassured residents of Ajebo and Lagos State in general that the police remain committed to maintaining peace, security, and order at all times.
