Oyebamiji was adopted on Saturday at the party’s governorship primary held in Osogbo, following a motion moved by two aspirants, Kunle Adegoke (SAN) and Senator Babajide Omoworare, calling for his affirmation as the party’s flagbearer.

The immediate past Managing Director of the National Inland Waterways Authority (NIWA), Bola Oyebamiji, has emerged as the consensus candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC) for the 2026 Osun State governorship election.

Oyebamiji was adopted on Saturday at the party’s governorship primary held in Osogbo, following a motion moved by two aspirants, Kunle Adegoke (SAN) and Senator Babajide Omoworare, calling for his affirmation as the party’s flagbearer.

The motion was subjected to a voice vote by the Chairman of the APC governorship primary committee and Governor of Edo State, Monday Okpebholo, and was overwhelmingly endorsed by party members present.

Okpebholo thereafter declared Oyebamiji as the party’s candidate.

“By the power conferred on me, I present to you Bola Oyebamiji as the governorship candidate of our party,” Okpebholo announced.

SaharaReporters gathered that the outcome had been largely predetermined, with party leaders earlier indicating that the primary would be conducted by affirmation rather than through a competitive ballot.

The primary election was attended by top APC figures, including Ondo State Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa, Nasarawa State Governor Abdullahi Sule, Lagos State Deputy Governor Obafemi Hamzat, who represented Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu, and former Kogi State Governor, Yahaya Bello.

The development followed the emergence earlier in the week of 1,660 delegates expected to participate in the APC’s December 13 governorship primary.

Multiple sources within the party also confirmed that all seven APC governorship aspirants in Osun had agreed to back a consensus candidate after a late-night meeting with President Bola Tinubu at the Presidential Villa, Abuja, on Wednesday.

Former APC National Secretary and one-time Osun governorship aspirant, Senator Iyiola Omisore, had publicly endorsed the consensus arrangement, saying he accepted the decision after consultations with President Tinubu.

Omisore was among seven aspirants earlier disqualified by the APC screening committee over alleged violations of party guidelines and electoral provisions.
