A fire outbreak on Thursday gutted key sections of the Rogo General Hospital in Rogo Local Government Area of Kano State, the Kano State Fire Service has confirmed.
The incident was disclosed in a statement issued on Thursday, December 11, 2025, by the Public Relations Officer of the service, ACFO Saminu Yusif Abdullahi.
According to the statement, the Fire Service Emergency Response Unit, led by the Director, Alhaji Sani Anas, received a distress call at about 2:36pm from one Abdullahi Ahmad Rifan, reporting a fire at the hospital premises.
Firefighters from the Karaye and Rogo Fire Stations were immediately deployed to the scene.
“On arrival, our men found a one-storey building measuring approximately 400 by 400 feet engulfed in flames,” the statement said.
It added that several critical units located on the ground floor of the hospital were affected by the inferno, including the Physiotherapy Clinic (CMO), Medical Emergency Unit (MEU) office, Dental Unit, Out-Patient Department (OPD), ACC/Card room, DOT Office and the Laboratory Office.
Preliminary findings by the Fire Service indicate that the fire was caused by an electrical spark, although officials said further investigations would be conducted to determine the exact cause of the incident.
The statement did not immediately confirm whether there were casualties or the extent of damage to medical equipment and patient records.
Reacting to the incident, the Director of the Fire Service urged members of the public to be vigilant and adopt safety measures, particularly during the harmattan season, which is often associated with increased fire outbreaks.
He advised residents to take necessary precautions to safeguard lives and property from preventable fire disasters.
