The decision was announced on Monday in Osogbo by the state chairman of the union, Comrade Idris Adedayo Adeniran, following what he described as significant progress in addressing the welfare-related demands of judiciary workers.
The Judiciary Staff Union of Nigeria (JUSUN), Osun State branch, has suspended its nearly three-month-long industrial action, directing its members to resume work from Tuesday, December 16, 2025.
The decision was announced on Monday in Osogbo by the state chairman of the union, Comrade Idris Adedayo Adeniran, following what he described as significant progress in addressing the welfare-related demands of judiciary workers.
“In light of recent developments, I hereby declare that the strike action embarked upon by the Judiciary Staff Union of Nigeria, Osun State Branch, since September 19, 2025, is suspended forthwith,” Adeniran said in a statement made available to Journalists. “The suspension takes effect from December 16, 2025.”
He explained that the decision was taken to allow judiciary workers participate in ongoing promotion exercises and to give the Judicial Service Commission (JSC) the opportunity to formally address pending issues.
“This decision will enable our members to appear before the Judicial Service Commission for the 2024 promotion exercise and also allow the management of the three arms of the Osun State Judiciary to officially submit the list of 2025 promotions,” he said.
“These matters are scheduled to be attended to on Wednesday, December 17, 2025.”
JUSUN members in the state had withdrawn their services since September in protest over unmet welfare demands, including delays in promotions. Several attempts to resolve the dispute previously failed, largely due to the inability of the JSC to convene and address the union’s grievances.
Providing updates on progress made so far, Adeniran said the JSC has resumed sittings and has already taken steps to correct some of the issues raised by the union.
“We are pleased to report that the Judicial Service Commission has rectified the promotion of junior staff for 2024,” he said. “We appreciate the prompt action taken by the Commission in this regard.”
According to him, the JSC has invited affected workers to appear before it as part of the promotion process.
“The JSC has requested that affected members of the 2024 promotion exercise appear on Tuesday, December 16, 2025, and we urge all eligible members to comply,” Adeniran said. “The Commission has also requested the list of members eligible for promotion in 2025, and we are working closely to ensure this process is completed expeditiously.”
He added that staff affected by the 2025 promotion exercise are expected to appear before the Commission on Wednesday.
“The JSC has requested that eligible members affected by the 2025 promotion exercise appear on Wednesday, December 17, 2025,” he said. “All concerned members are urged to comply and also inform their colleagues.”
Adeniran credited the recent breakthrough to the intervention of key stakeholders, including the Department of State Services (DSS), the state judiciary and labour leaders.
“The meeting convened by the Director of the Department of State Services, Osun State, brought together critical stakeholders, including the Honourable Chief Judge, Justice Adepele Ojo; the Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice, Mr. Oluwole Jimi-Bada, SAN; and labour leaders,” he said. “That meeting played a major role in the progress recorded so far.”
He expressed appreciation to the DSS for facilitating dialogue and easing tensions.
“We wish to express our profound appreciation to Mr. Kehinde Ayoola, FSI, Director of DSS, Osun State, and his team for their tireless efforts in resolving the JUSUN strike,” Adeniran said. “Your intervention has been invaluable and has contributed greatly to promoting peace and stability in the state.”
The JUSUN chairman also appealed for continued engagement to reach a lasting resolution.
“We respectfully request that the DSS continues to facilitate a mutually beneficial agreement between the Honourable Chief Judge and JUSUN, as promised during our meeting of December 10, 2025,” he said. “Your efforts have been crucial in moving our negotiations forward.”
With the suspension of the strike, normal judicial activities are expected to resume across courts in Osun State from Tuesday.
