The role of a leader is to set the vision and guide their people in the direction they believe is right for them. A leader who lies continuously shows no care or concern for their people. They don’t have respect or regard for the feelings and rights of others.
One of the saddest fact of Nigeria’s current leadership is the prevalence of lies and misleading statements from President Bola Tinubu. The danger of the cocktail of lying of Tinubu’s administration is legitimizing the Christian genocide perpetrated by Muslim terrorists of Boko Haram and Fulani. Since President Donald Trump threatened to hunker down the terrorists, hardly a day goes by without killings and abductions of Christians by the terrorists.
Three days ago or so, while declaring open the Nasrul -Lahi-l-Faith Society (NASFAT) 8th Biennial Conference and Annual General Meeting in Abuja, President Tinubu dismissed allegations of either Christian or Muslim genocide. Tinubu described such claims as unfounded. “The allegations are not only false,” argues Tinubu, “but harmful, and capable of inflaming passions and disrupting the sustenance of the peaceful coexistence which we continue to build as a nation,” says Tinubu.
But as provident would have it, on Sunday, December 14, 2025, the terrorists once again proved Tinubu to be lying that there is no Christian genocide in the country. Terrorists attacked the First ECWA Church in Ayetoro Kiri, Kabba/Bunu Local Government Area of Kogi State during Sunday service. Twenty worshippers were abducted. What more evidence does Tinubu need for him to confess to the world that Christian genocide is alive in Nigeria?
Why is Tinubu lying to Nigerians and the world? Tinubu lies because of power and survival. He deceives Nigerians to protect his Muslim Brotherhood terrorists, kidnappers, and bandits. He is using “reasons of state” to manipulate gullible, ignorant and dumb Nigerians. Tinubu lies out of fear of consequences such as the threat Trump’s attack on the terrorists. With screaming daily headlines of unthinkable killings by the terrorists, Tinubu’s lies have destroyed his dwindling moral authority among Nigerians.
He cannot be trusted by Nigerians. He lies in order to withhold crucial information. He lies to deflect blame and to shield himself and his government from negative consequences. By lying, Tinubu continues to sacrifice the remaining ounce of integrity he has. President Tinubu, lying isn’t leading. Lying is cowardice, moral dishonesty and leadership failure.
Tinubu cannot extricate himself from the hole of the terrorists by negotiating with them. The security and safety of Nigerians particularly the targeted Christian population, is after all more than a question of social justice. The survival of our people hinges on it.
How many Christians would have to be killed by the terrorists before Tinubu rise to the occasion with force and fire against the Muslim savages? How long will Nigerians continue to live in fear, in chaos, in crisis, in despair? Why is it so difficult and seems impossible for Tinubu to end the killings now? Where does Tinubu’s priorities lie? His priority lies in rescuing Democracy in the Republic of Benin than saving Nigerian Christians from genocide. And he is ready to sacrifice the lives of Christians to realize his second term ambition.
Can Tinubu muster the foresight and political courage to halt the killings and abductions? Does he need a more catastrophe like Islamization of Nigeria and full takeover of the country by the monsters to inspire change?
The report of the American congressional fact finding trip to Nigeria is on its way to President Trump’s desk. Time is running out for Tinubu and his administration.
