The government described the move as a major step in advancing environmental protection and sustainable development under President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s “Renewed Hope Agenda.”
The declaration, announced by the Ministry of Environment, underscores the Federal Government’s stated commitment to “protecting natural ecosystems and promoting climate resilience,” as Nigeria grapples with deforestation, biodiversity loss and the impacts of climate change.
Minister of Environment, Balarabe Abbas Lawal, formally received the Kogo Forest Reserve from the Governor of Katsina State, Dr. Dikko Umaru Radda, in a handover that transferred management of the reserve to the Federal Government through the National Park Service.
According to the statement, the National Park Service has already deployed critical resources to the area, including vehicles, equipment and modern conservation technologies, to ensure effective protection and management of the newly designated park.
The Nigerian Government said the designation is expected to strengthen biodiversity conservation efforts while helping to preserve Nigeria’s natural heritage for future generations, as part of broader environmental reforms tied to the administration’s “Renewed Hope Agenda.”
