The approvals followed written examinations and oral interviews concluded on Wednesday, December 17, 2025, at the Commission’s Corporate Headquarters in Jabi, Abuja.
The Police Service Commission has approved a promotion exercise across senior and mid-level ranks of the Nigeria Police Force.
The PSC elevated one officer to the rank of Deputy Inspector-General of Police (DIG), seven to Assistant Inspectors-General (AIG), 13 to Commissioners of Police (CP), 30 to Deputy Commissioners of Police (DCP), alongside hundreds of others.
The approvals followed written examinations and oral interviews concluded on Wednesday, December 17, 2025, at the Commission’s Corporate Headquarters in Jabi, Abuja.
The exercise was presided over by the PSC Chairman, Hashimu Salihu Argungu (rtd).
Among those promoted is AIG Mohammed Usman Gumel, who was elevated to the rank of DIG. Before his promotion, Gumel served as the Assistant Inspector-General of Police in charge of the Community Policing Project (CPP), Department of Research and Planning, Force Headquarters, Abuja.
In a statement issued by the Commission’s Protocol and Public Affairs unit and signed by Torty Njoku Kalu, the PSC disclosed that seven Commissioners of Police were promoted to the rank of AIG.
They include Ihebom Chukwuma (FCID, Abuja), Maxwell Olatokunbo (K9), Abaniwonda Olufemi (Delta State), Alonyenu Francis Idu (Bayelsa State), Lawal B. Ayodeji (AHTU, FCID Annex Lagos), Agene Emmanuel (FCID Kaduna), and Vungmoh S. M. Kwaimo (Railway Command).
Thirteen Deputy Commissioners of Police were also elevated to the rank of Commissioner of Police. The beneficiaries include Babalola Ayodeji Johnson (NPF NCCC), Ali Umar Fage (DFA, Port Authority, Lagos), Cyril Uche Obiozo (Admin, Cross River Command), Adepegba K. Adetoye (Admin, Edo Command), Tabitha Bako (Anti-Human Trafficking, FCID), Ofem Ikpi Arikpo (Bayelsa Command), Edwin Ogbeghagha (Operations, Zone 17 Akure), Audu Garba Bosso (Operations, Borno State), Samuel Yerima Gimba (Benue State), Mohammed Danladi (Taraba State), Richard Bala Gara (DFA, Nasarawa), Lasisi Adekunle Titilola (X-Squad, FID Lagos), and John Obiuagbaka (Staff College, Joshua).
The Commission further promoted 30 Assistant Commissioners of Police to the rank of Deputy Commissioner of Police. Those elevated include Muhammad Nuhu Diggi (Dala, Kano), Udu Moses Ogechi (59 PMF, Gombe), Afolaogun Toyin (16 PMF, Abeokuta), Hassan S. Aliyu (13 PMF), Alex O. Ebbah (X-Squad, FCT), Ajasa Hakeem O. (4 PMF, Ibadan), Adedeji Adefolarin (Ilesha), Agboola Abiodun (26 PMF, Uyo), Onaghise Shelley Osayande (DOPS, Force HQ), Titus Ayodeji (33 PMF, Ado-Ekiti), Garba Fakai Umar (Osogbo), among others.
In the same exercise, 51 Chief Superintendents of Police were elevated to Assistant Commissioners of Police, including Davidson Okechukwu Ndubueze (DPO, Okija), Muktari Bello (Delta Command), and Obediah Okezie (DPO, World Bank, Umuahia).
The PSC also approved the promotion of 542 Superintendents of Police to Chief Superintendent of Police. Among those listed are Ekere Ferdinand (CTU Base 1, Abuja), Anthony Elijah Kwada (Provost, IGP-STFPIB, Force HQ), Lucas Yohanna (former ADC to Adamawa State Governor), Ologede Babatunde (20 PMF, Ikeja), Lucky Chukwusa (Sango Ota Division, Ogun), Bilkisu Shuaibu (FCT Command), and several others.
Additionally, 119 Deputy Superintendents of Police were promoted to the rank of Superintendent of Police, while 12 Assistant Superintendents of Police were elevated to Deputy Superintendent of Police.
Congratulating the newly promoted officers, PSC Chairman Argungu charged them to brace up for higher responsibilities and demonstrate greater commitment to national service.
“Promotion comes with higher expectations,” Argungu said, urging the officers to rededicate themselves to effective policing, protection of lives and property, and the maintenance of law and order.
He reaffirmed the Commission’s resolve to sustain regular, merit-based promotions in line with best practices.
