Nigeria’s Anti-Narcotics Agency Arrests Beninese Woman With 3,400 Tramadol Tablets At Seme Border

The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) has arrested a 48-year-old Beninese woman, Leocardi Josu, at the Seme border in Badagry while she attempted to enter Nigeria with 3,400 tablets of tramadol 225mg.

NDLEA in a statement signed by its Director of Media and Advocacy, Femi Babafemi, on Sunday, said its officers at Murtala Muhammed International Airport, Ikeja, Lagos, also arrested a 36-year-old businessman, Nwanwene Robinson Destiny, on Thursday, December 18. 

“At the Seme border in Badagry area of Lagos, a 48-year-old Beninese Leocardi Josu was on Thursday 18th December arrested by NDLEA officers while attempting to cross into Nigeria with 3,400 tablets of tramadol 225mg, even as a suspect Abdullahi Adamu, 30, was nabbed along Okene/Lokoja highway with 28.400kg skunk, a strain of cannabis and Colorado, a synthetic cannabis on Friday 19th December,” he said.

He was reportedly attempting to board a Royal Air-Maroc flight to Milan, Italy. A search of his luggage revealed 1,020 pills of tramadol 225mg and tapentadol 200mg.

The crackdown extended to other parts of the country. On Friday, December 19, NDLEA operatives apprehended Abdullahi Adamu, 30, along Okene/Lokoja highway. He was found with 28.400kg of skunk, a strain of cannabis, and Colorado, a synthetic cannabis.

In Oyo State, officers recovered 125,000 capsules of tramadol and 1,800 ampoules of pentazocine injection from a Toyota Hiace bus marked XD 592 AWL along the Lagos-Ibadan expressway.

Two suspects, Ogunlade Kazeem, 54, and Adeleke Ismail, 30, were arrested at Challenge Motor Park, Ibadan. They had 185.4 kilograms of skunk on Wednesday, December 17.

In Osun State, 405kg of skunk was seized from Owena/Ijesha forest, leading to the arrest of Charles James, 45. On the same day, Jamilu Zakari, 42, was caught at a tollgate along the Abuja-Kaduna highway. 

NDLEA said he had 14,960 tramadol 225mg pills concealed in two kolanut sacks coming from Abuja to Gusau, Zamfara State.

Also, the agency in the same raid arrested a 39-year-old Shodunke Yetunde Simbiat, a female cocaine stash keeper in Lagos. 

A search of her home at 31 Onasanya Street, Surulere, on Tuesday 9th December recovered blocks of cocaine weighing 23.50 kilograms from her children’s room. She admitted ownership of the consignment. NDLEA said it was worth over N5 billion in street value.

NDLEA Chairman/Chief Executive Officer, Brig. Gen. Mohamed Buba Marwa (Rtd.), commended officers for the arrests and seizures. 

He enjoined personnel nationwide to remain extra vigilant during the festive season. He added that they must ensure that highest standard of professionalism is maintained in all drug supply reduction and drug demand reduction activities.
