Africa 24 is a 24-hour, seven-day-a-week television news network focused on African affairs. Broadcasting in French, it is available in France as well as across Sub-Saharan Africa.

Guinea’s media regulator has suspended the international news channel Africa 24 from broadcasting in the country for covering the presidential election without proper accreditation.

Africa 24 is a 24-hour, seven-day-a-week television news network focused on African affairs. Broadcasting in French, it is available in France as well as across Sub-Saharan Africa.

The decision was taken by the Haute Autorité de la Communication (HAC) during an extraordinary plenary session held via videoconference on Sunday, December 21, 2025.

The suspension also includes removing Africa 24 from the Canal+ bouquet, which will prevent the channel from being accessed by viewers in Guinea.

HAC in a statement said the action was necessary because the channel’s reporting team did not have authorisation to cover the election.

“The High Authority for Communication, after deliberating in its extraordinary plenary session held by videoconference on Sunday, December 21, 2025, decides, Article 1, to suspend the broadcasting of the television channel AFRICA24 in Guinean territory, for the illegal practice of journalism by its reporting teams covering the presidential election campaign without accreditation from the High Authority for Communication (HAC),” the statement read.

The regulator added that the suspension is consistent with Guinean media and electoral laws.

“The blackout of the AFRICA24 channel on the Canal+ package within the national territory is in accordance with the provisions of Articles 1 and 18 of Organic Law L/2020/0010/AN of July 2020 concerning the powers, composition, organization and operation of the High Authority for Communication (HAC) of the Republic of Guinea, and Article 72 of the Electoral Code,” the HAC said.

The authority confirmed that the decision takes effect immediately and will be published in the Journal Officiel de la République.

“La présente décision qui prend effet à compter de la date de sa signature, sera enregistrée et publiée au Journal Officiel de la République,” the statement added.

Africa 24, founded by Cameroonian journalist Constant Nemale, is the first international media outlet to be suspended by Guinea’s current authorities.
