The Silence Of The “Men Of God” In Times Of Oppression - Seasons Greetings Nigerians, By M. Musa

And today, that silence comes from those who once claimed to speak for God.

There is a silence that is louder than noise.

And today, that silence comes from those who once claimed to speak for God.

When it was time to sing praises of deception during political campaigns, they rushed to their pulpits. Mosques and churches became extensions of political rallies. Scripture was twisted into slogans. Faith was reduced to propaganda. And this shame cut across both sides of the aisle—Muslims and Christians alike.

But now, when oppression has become daily bread, when corruption eats deeper than hunger, when terrorism and injustice stalk the land, these same voices are suddenly mute.

When it is time to pray against oppressors and oppression, the pulpits go quiet.

Perhaps the yam and cassava bought with political dollars have clogged their throats. Perhaps the envelopes exchanged for “honour” have sealed their lips. Or perhaps they fear losing access more than they fear losing God.

Whatever the reason, the result is the same: a betrayal of the people and a mockery of faith.

A Call for One Prayer

This holiday season presents a rare moment of unity.

Christmas falls on Thursday, a day when Muslims fast, not because it is Christmas, but because they fast on Mondays and Thursdays. Christians will be in church celebrating Christmas. Different rituals. Same God. Same country. Same suffering.

So let us demand one thing:

That every mosque and every church, on the 25th, 26th, and during crossover night, prays openly and fearlessly against corruption, terrorism, and oppression.

And if any imam or pastor refuses to say these prayers, walk out.

Do not argue.

Do not explain.

Just walk out.

Because silence in the face of evil is not neutrality, it is collaboration.

The Prayer They Fear

Let this be the prayer that fills our houses of worship:

Oh Lord of the heavens and the earth, the Most Powerful.

Out of Your mercy, anyone, including myself, who is participating in corruption or terrorism in any form:

Before this year ends, bring down destruction upon me, my family, and all who are involved.

And purify this land. Make our country prosperous. Rid it of such people.

This is not hatred.

This is accountability.

If a man truly fears God, he will not be afraid to say this prayer.

No More Selective Faith

We all remember how shamelessly some stood in chambers and sang “by his mandate they shall stand.”

They screamed it.

They repeated it.

They showed no fear.

If you cannot scream this prayer on the 25th, the 26th, and on crossover night with the same energy, then spare us the sermons.

Enjoy the corruption.

Live with the terrorism.

And wait for your reckoning—because the grave does not respect titles, turbans, or collars.

Faith that serves power is not faith.

Religion that fears politicians more than God is fraud.

The masses must wake up.

God does not need defenders.

But the people need truth.

And the time for silence has passed.
