The victims, abducted on Monday, December 15, include two engineers, identified as Ademola Afolabi and Umar Lade, and two labourers, identified as Fatai and Akin, and a driver identified as Yusuf.

Families of five workers abducted at a road construction site along the Sabaja/Owa-Onire Road in Ifelodun Local Government Area of Kwara State have urgently appealed to the state government and security agencies to secure their release.

Speaking to Sobi FM on Tuesday on behalf of the families, Mallam Issa Abdullahi revealed that the kidnappers had contacted them, demanding a ransom of ₦500 million.

He described the families as helpless, stressing that the demanded amount is far beyond their means.

Mallam Abdullahi said the families are appealing to Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq and security agencies in the state to intervene and facilitate the safe return of the abducted workers.

The victims, abducted on Monday, December 15, include two engineers, identified as Ademola Afolabi and Umar Lade, and two labourers, identified as Fatai and Akin, and a driver identified as Yusuf.

They were seized while working at the construction site.

It was gathered that the Divisional Police Officer (DPO) in Oreke had mobilised a team of police operatives who are working in collaboration with the military and local vigilantes to comb the surrounding bushes in a bid to rescue the victims and apprehend the perpetrators.

Security agencies have assured that further developments on the incident will be communicated to the public.

In a similar case, last Thursday, SaharaReporters reported that suspected terrorists who abducted seven construction workers in Oba community, Isin Local Government Area of Kwara State, had demanded a ransom of N500 million for their release.

A source in one of the victims’ families told SaharaReporters last Wednesday evening that the kidnappers made contact and insisted on the payment of N500 million before the workers could regain their freedom.

The victims, who are construction workers engaged on a project in the area, were seized by armed men during an attack in Oba community, throwing their families and residents into fear and uncertainty.
