The Nigerian Bar Association (NBA), Maiduguri Branch, has strongly condemned the deadly explosion that occurred at the Gamboru Market Mosque in Maiduguri, Borno State, on Wednesday, December 24, 2025.
In a statement issued on Friday, December 26, 2025, signed by its Chairman of Maiduguri Branch, Barrister Zanna Hamza, and the Secretary, Barrister Zakariya Umar, NBA described the incident as a “horrifying” and “detestable act of violence” that claimed innocent lives and was aimed at instilling fear within the community.
“The Nigerian Bar Association, Maiduguri Branch, unequivocally condemns the horrifying explosion that rocked the mosque at Gamboru Market, Maiduguri,” the statement read.
It added that the attack was a deliberate attempt to sow fear, stressing that the community remains united against such acts of barbarity.
The attack occurred during Magrib prayers and resulted in the death of five worshippers, while several others sustained serious injuries.
The Nigerian Army headquarters has confirmed that the attack was carried out by members of the Boko Haram insurgent group.
The NBA expressed deep sympathy to families who lost loved ones in the incident and extended its prayers to those who sustained injuries.
“Our hearts go out to those who sustained injuries, and we wish them a swift and complete recovery,” the association stated.
The body of legal practitioners also called on the government and security agencies to intensify efforts to protect lives and property, noting that the pursuit of peace and security must not wane.
“We urge the government and our security forces to intensify their efforts in safeguarding the lives and property of the citizens. We cannot relent in our pursuit of peace and security,” NBA said.
Additionally, the NBA appealed to members of the public to remain vigilant at all times, emphasizing that collective responsibility is key to preventing further attacks.
“Together, we can fortify our community against those who seek to disrupt our harmony,” it added.
