Operatives of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) have launched a sweeping crackdown across multiple states, destroying tons of cannabis warehouses, seizing large quantities of narcotics, and arresting suspected traffickers, including a businessman wanted over a shipment of “Loud” intercepted at Lagos’ Tincan Port.

The nationwide operations, carried out between December 21 and 25, hit Ekiti, Edo, Cross River, Abuja, Lagos, Taraba, and Gombe states, SaharaReporters has learnt.

In Ara forest, Ara-Ekiti, agents on Monday, December 22, set ablaze wooden warehouses stacked with skunk, a potent strain of cannabis, and recovered 638 kilograms of the illegal substance before torching the site.

On the same day, patrol officers along Igara–Auchi Road in Edo State intercepted three Toyota Camry cars loaded with 1,205 blocks of compressed cannabis sativa, weighing 883.1kg.

In Cross River, a raid at Agoi-Ibami community, Yakurr LGA, led to the arrest of three suspects: Freedom Jonah Akpama (27), 671kg; David Itam David (30), 89kg; and Nelson Arikpo Osam (26), 148kg.

A separate operation on the Abuja–Abaji expressway led to the arrest of Joy Oisamaye (42) with 38kg of skunk. She was reportedly traveling from Otua, Owan East LGA, Edo State, when she was caught.

In Lagos, NDLEA officers arrested Ajoke Dauda on Christmas Day with 45.5kg of skunk at Agbara along the Badagry expressway.

Another suspect, Oluwasegun Felix, was caught the day before with 18.5kg in the Itoga area of Badagry.

Taraba State also recorded two arrests, Emmanuel Danladi (39) and John Onoja (41), with 48kg of cannabis between them.

Along the Gombe–Biu highway, a 65-year-old commercial driver, Sada’u Mohammed, was arrested while transporting a stash of pharmaceutical narcotics allegedly headed for Borno. Items recovered include: 300 ampoules of pentazocine injection; 27,900 tramadol pills; and other opioids.

The agency also confirmed the arrest of Ignatius Egbochie (alias Brown), 47, allegedly linked to the seizure of 56 parcels of Loud, a high-grade cannabis strain, weighing 26kg at the Tincan Port on December 10.

“The illicit drug consignment was seized on 10th December during a joint examination of a container by NDLEA, Customs and other security agencies.  A follow up operation by NDLEA operatives on 19th December led to the arrest of Ignatius in Apapa,” the NDLEA spokesperson, Femi Babafemi, said in a statement on Sunday

The initial interception was made during a joint cargo examination involving NDLEA, Customs, and other security units.

Babafemi confirmed the operations on Sunday, saying the agency remains committed to disrupting drug trafficking networks nationwide.
