Tinubu Extends Sympathies To Nigerian-British Boxer, Anthony Joshua Over Fatal Road Crash

President Bola Tinubu has expressed deep sympathy to Nigerian-British boxer, Anthony Joshua following a tragic road accident on the Lagos–Ibadan Expressway that claimed two lives and left the athlete injured. 

In a statement released on Monday, and shared on official X handle, the President described the incident as a painful loss that has cast “a deep shadow on this season,” while extending condolences to the bereaved families and solidarity with the injured sportsman and his loved ones. 

“I extend my deep sympathies to you following the tragic accident on the Lagos–Ibadan Expressway, which claimed two precious lives and caused you injuries,” Tinubu said.

The President acknowledged the emotional toll of the incident, noting that such moments call for unity and collective support. “I sympathise with you and your family as you bear the emotional weight of this unfortunate incident,” he stated.

Tinubu also praised AJ’s character and contributions to the nation, describing him as a symbol of national pride. 

“As a sportsman, you have always shown courage, discipline, and unwavering love for our country. These are qualities that have made you a source of national pride,” the President said.

Emphasising the importance of national solidarity in times of grief, Tinubu added, “In moments like this, we must encourage one another as brothers and sisters with a shared destiny.”

The President concluded his message with prayers for healing and comfort. “I pray for strength, wisdom, and grace for you during this painful period. May God grant you a speedy recovery and repose to the souls of the departed,” he said.

The accident has once again drawn attention to road safety concerns on the busy Lagos–Ibadan Expressway, one of Nigeria’s major transport corridors.
