Residents of Gebbe village in Shanga Local Government Area of Kebbi State have been forced to flee their homes following renewed bandits attacks, sparking fresh concerns over insecurity and humanitarian distress in the area.
The development was disclosed on Wednesday by a social media user, @DanKatsina, in a post shared on his X (formerly Twitter) handle.
The post, accompanied by a video clip, shows men, women, and children fleeing the village and crossing a stream in a desperate attempt to escape violence.
In the video, displaced residents could be seen carrying what little belongings they could salvage, with many barefoot and visibly exhausted.
Children clung to their parents as families moved through water and rough terrain, seeking safety from the attackers.
“These people are fleeing Gebbe village in Shanga LGA of Kebbi State due to armed bandit attacks,” @DanKatsina wrote.
“They are displaced, without shelter, food, or basic needs. Immediate humanitarian intervention is needed.”

According to the post, the fleeing villagers are now exposed to harsh conditions, lacking access to food, clean water, healthcare, and shelter.
There were no visible security personnel accompanying the displaced residents, raising questions about the level of protection available to rural communities facing repeated attacks.
A community source familiar with the situation said the attacks have created widespread fear among residents.
“People are running for their lives,” the source said. “They don’t know where the next attack will come from. Families are abandoning their homes, farms, and livelihoods just to stay alive.”
The video has since generated reactions online, with many Nigerians calling on the Kebbi State Government and federal authorities to act swiftly.
Several public officials and influential figures were tagged in the post, including Kebbi State Governor Nasir Idris, the Nigerian Senate, and other prominent voices, urging urgent security and humanitarian response.
Security analysts warn that continued displacement without intervention could worsen the humanitarian crisis in the area.
“When communities are repeatedly attacked and forced to flee, it creates long-term instability,” a security expert said. “Without immediate action to secure the area and support the displaced, the situation could spiral further.”
As of the time of filing this report, there has been no official statement from the Kebbi State Government or security agencies addressing the reported attacks in Gebbe village.
