MSSN highlighted that holding a public party during this period could be considered inappropriate given the prevailing circumstances.
The Muslim Students’ Society of Nigeria (MSSN), Niger State Area Unit, has called on Governor Umaru Bago to suspend the planned Crossover Night Party at the Idris Legbo Kutigi International Conference Centre.
The students’ body expressed concern about the timing of the event, noting that many families are still affected by security challenges in the state.
They said: “Many families are mourning, and communities are turning to fasting and prayers, seeking divine intervention for peace and stability of the state.”
MSSN highlighted that holding a public party during this period could be considered inappropriate given the prevailing circumstances.
The statement added: “Holding a public party at such a trying time may be perceived as insensitive, potentially sending mixed signals to grieving families and communities facing insecurity.”
The society noted that scholars and faith leaders are currently guiding special prayer sessions across Niger State. They said: “A sacred atmosphere that such a party could inadvertently disrupt.”
SaharaReporters gathered that the organisers and sponsors of the event are allegedly Deputy Chief of Staff to Governor Bago, Sadiq Yusuf, and the Vice Chairperson of Chanchaga Local Government Area, Hajiya Safiya Tanimu Nasidi.
They are allegedly responsible for and funding the celebration.
The students’ body also suggested an alternative approach focused on reflection and prayer.
They recommended: “A statewide night of prayer, involving all religious communities, to reflect, unite, and seek divine peace for our dear land.”
The statement concluded with a prayer for the governor’s leadership and the wellbeing of the state.
MSSN said: “May Allah (SWT) continue to guide your leadership and grant peace and prosperity to Niger State and Nigeria at large.”
