According to the statement, the Commissioner of Police extended the condolences of the command to the families of the victims and directed senior officers to investigate the attack.
Three persons have been killed and eight others injured following an attack by gunmen on Akunza Ashige community in the Lafia Local Government Area of Nasarawa State, the police have confirmed.
The Nasarawa State Police Command stated this in a statement issued on Wednesday in Lafia by its spokesperson, SP Ramhan Nansel.
The statement said the command received a distress call on Tuesday, December 30, 2025, reporting an attack by unknown gunmen in the community.
According to the police, the Commissioner of Police, Shetima Jauro-Mohammed, ordered the immediate deployment of operatives to the area after the report was received.
The statement said, “Upon receipt of the report, the Commissioner of Police, Shetima Jauro-Mohammed, immediately deployed a detachment of Mobile Police personnel and other tactical teams to the area.”
The command said casualties were recorded during the police response.
It stated, “During the response operation, two corpses were recovered, while nine injured persons were rescued and rushed to nearby hospitals.”
It added that the death toll later rose after one of the injured victims died.
The statement said, “Unfortunately, one of the injured persons died in the early hours of Wednesday, while others are still receiving treatment.”
According to the statement, the Commissioner of Police extended the condolences of the command to the families of the victims and directed senior officers to investigate the attack.
It said the Deputy Commissioner of Police in charge of the State Criminal Investigation Department and the Assistant Commissioner of Police in charge of operations were assigned the task.
“They were directed to proceed to the area and conduct a comprehensive investigation aimed at unraveling the perpetrators of the dastardly act, with a view to ensuring their immediate arrest and prosecution,” the statement said.
The police assured residents of Akunza Ashige and its environs that the command is committed to ensuring those responsible for the attack are brought to justice, while urging members of the public to remain calm and continue to support the police with timely and useful information.
