The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) in Kano State has arrested four suspects over the killing of one of its volunteers, Abdurrauf Sheriff, during an attack by suspected hoodlums in the state.

The Kano State Command disclosed this in a statement issued on Friday by its Public Relations Officer, Ibrahim Abdullahi.

The incident occurred around Gyadi Gyadi Court Road while the volunteer was said to be carrying out his official duties.

According to the statement, the command condemned the killing, describing it as a “grievous act of violence.”

It stated, “The unfortunate incident, which occurred around Gyadi Gyadi Court road, while the volunteer was carrying out his lawful duty, is a grievous act of violence that the Corps will not tolerate.”

The command said four suspects had been arrested in connection with the incident and were currently in custody.

“The Command wishes to inform the general public that four suspects with dangerous weapons (hacksaw, Danbida, drugs) have been arrested in connection with the murder and are currently in custody, assisting security agencies with investigations, with a view to ensuring that justice is served”, Abdullahi said.

The State Commandant of the NSCDC in Kano, Commandant Mohammed Hassan Agalama, expressed deep condolences to the family of the deceased volunteer and reassured the public of the Corps’ commitment to working with other security agencies to rid the state of criminal elements.

The command added that, as the matter is a case of culpable homicide, the suspects would be transferred to the Nigerian Police after preliminary investigations for necessary legal action.

Commandant Agalama also urged residents to remain calm and continue to support security agencies with timely and credible information.
