Nigerian Police Summon Delta DPO For Framing 'Good Samaritan' As Murder Suspect, Extorting Money From Him

SaharaReporters learnt that the DPO, CSP Christopher Udoh (also referred to as Odoh), is being queried for threatening a good samaritan and treating him as a criminal.

The Nigeria Police Force has confirmed that the Divisional Police Officer of GRA Asaba, Delta State, has been summoned and is expected to appear at the Police Force Headquarters in Abuja for questioning.

SaharaReporters learnt that the DPO, CSP Christopher Udoh (also referred to as Odoh), is being queried for threatening a good samaritan and treating him as a criminal.

"The Divisional Police Officer, GRA Asaba, @DeltaPoliceNG has been summoned and will be in Police Force Headquarters Abuja for questioning concerning this complaint by next week, thank you for contacting NPF-CRU. #NoToImpunity," the police complaint response unit said on Saturday.

The victim, Tomi Akporoghene Wojuola, narrated how an act of goodwill nearly destroyed his life after he helped rush a young man who collapsed on the road to a hospital in Asaba, Delta State — only to be accused of murder by the police.

Wojuola said the incident occurred in 2025.when he noticed a young man who had collapsed by the roadside.

According to him, after seeking medical advice from a doctor over the phone, he decided to rush the victim to a hospital, even as other passersby walked away.

“Sometime this year, I made the grievous mistake of rushing a dying young man who had collapsed on the road to the hospital at the instance of a doctor who I had earlier called for advice, even when everybody chose to walk pass.

"Unfortunately, upon reaching the hospital, the young man gave up the ghost. Out of protocol, I requested that the police be informed since I never knew the person involved, I was just trying to be a good citizen,” Wojuola said.

He explained that because he did not know the deceased, he insisted that the police be informed in line with protocol, believing he had done the right thing as a responsible citizen.

However, rather than being commended, he was taken to the GRA Police Station in Asaba, where he said the situation took a shocking turn.

Wojuola alleged that he was accused of murder and that his statement was taken under caution.

He specifically accused the Divisional Police Officer (DPO) of the Asaba GRA Division, CSP Christopher Udoh (also referred to as Odoh), of threatening him and treating him as a criminal.

"I was taken to incident the case at GRA Police station in Asaba. To tell you how wicked some officers of the Nigerian Police Force could be, I was instead accused of murder with my statement taken under caution. Christopher Udoh, the DPO, told me he must deal with me for acting like ‘Jesus’. Those were his exact words," Wojuola claimed.

"He bluntly told me that when he is through with me, if I see anybody dying again, I would walk pass, even after the deceased victims family had confirmed that their late son had an underlying condition," he said.

Wojuola said this treatment continued even after the deceased’s family reportedly confirmed that their son had an underlying medical condition.

He added that he only escaped being formally charged with murder through the intervention of what he described as “a very top government functionary,” who personally came to the station to attest to his innocence and ensure his release.

Despite this high-level intervention, Wojuola alleged that the police still extorted him.

“Even after the VVIP came, the Nigerian Police Force, through CSP Christopher Odoh of the Asaba GRA Division, still emptied my account as bail money,” he said. “I went home with only ₦2000.”

Reflecting on the ordeal, Wojuola said the experience helped him understand why many Nigerians now resort to filming emergencies instead of helping victims.

“I immediately understood why people make videos in such situations and do not attempt to rescue victims,” he said.

Meanwhile, the police complaints unit disclosed in a statement that the Divisional Police Officer of GRA Asaba, Delta State, has been summoned and is expected to appear at the Police Force Headquarters in Abuja for questioning regarding this complaint next week.
