The closure forms part of an ongoing investigation by the FCT Women Affairs Secretariat to ensure compliance with child welfare regulations.
Officials in a video clip published by Africa Independent Television (AIT) on Tuesday said multiple attempts had been made to reach the operator of the home, but these efforts were unsuccessful.
Announcing the action, the authorities said, “From the residents of the Federal Capital Territory, Abuja, that Divine Hope Orphanage and Less Privileged Home in Kagini, Abuja F.C.T. is hereby officially sealed.”
They emphasised that the facility remains under scrutiny, adding, “This home is under investigation.”
Officials also noted that the operator had been invited several times to cooperate with the investigation but had failed to respond, stating, “We have invited her several times. She refused to turn up.”
They urged the public to assist in locating the operator so the investigation can be completed, saying, “We're calling on the resident of the F.C.T. or anyone that knows her to tell her to report at the Child Development Department, F.C.T. Women Affairs Secretariat for proper and completion of the investigation.”
