The woman, who was mourning her son—killed in her presence — as well as his wife and daughter, is said to have been ill at the time the bandits returned on Monday night.

Terrorists, locally dubbed as bandits, on Monday night night kidnapped an elderly woman in the Southern Kaduna region of Kaduna State, barely 48 hours after killing her son and another person in Arak village, Sanga Local Government Area.

The woman has been identified as Mrs. Averik Arak, who was abducted alongside her granddaughter. The child's father, identified as Habila Averik, was killed on Saturday.

The woman, who was mourning her son—killed in her presence — as well as his wife and daughter, is said to have been ill at the time the bandits returned on Monday night.

In similar attacks in two other local government areas of Kauru and Kajuru, bandits kidnapped 15 villagers, mostly minors, from Unguwan Sarki Maro in Kajuru. In Kadage village, Kauru Council, about 16 people were kidnapped and one person was killed.

A source from Kadage village explained that over 100 of their kinsmen had been held captive by bandits between December 1, 2025 and January 4, 2026. The source stated he would provide a breakdown from seven surrounding villages in Kauru Local Government.

He also lamented the media blackout of the resurgence of kidnappings and killings in their area.

SaharaReporters had reported that bandits killed four members of a family during a deadly overnight attack in Kachia town, Southern Kaduna.

Multiple sources had told SaharaReporters that the attack occurred late Friday night in Kachia, near the newly established Federal University of Applied Science, the headquarters of Kachia Local Government Area of Kaduna State.

A member of the affected family confirmed the incident to SaharaReporters on Saturday, identifying the victims as Mr. Bitrus Bahago, his wife, Mrs. Justina Bitrus Bahago, their son, Ibrahim Bitrus Bahago, and another relative, Adam Waziri.

“They are all four killed by the bandits,” the family source said.

According to the source, the attackers arrived in large numbers and opened fire on residents, leaving several others injured.

However, the injured victims were rushed to nearby hospitals for medical treatment.

Residents of Kachia had described the attack as terrifying, noting that the community has suffered repeated assaults by armed groups despite its proximity to major institutions and security formations.

As of the time of filing this report, there was no official statement from the Kaduna State Police Command on the incident.

Southern Kaduna has witnessed persistent attacks by bandits and gunmen in recent years, with residents repeatedly calling on the federal and state governments to strengthen security and protect vulnerable communities.
