The Osun State Government has suspended all dealings with the state chapter of the National Youth Council of Nigeria (NYCN) following a deepening leadership crisis within the body.

This was disclosed on Sunday in a statement signed by Oluomo Kolapo Alimi, Commissioner for Information and Public Enlightenment.

“Following ongoing controversy and leadership crisis within the state chapter of the National Youth Council of Nigeria (NYCN), the state government has suspended further dealings with the body pending the outcome of ongoing investigations,” the statement said.

The government expressed concern over the ongoing feud, which has reportedly involved disputes over leadership positions and the allocation of resources. In response, a three-member committee, composed of independent nominees, has been tasked with investigating the issues.

While the investigation continues, the state government said it will implement directives from the Federal Ministry of Youth Development issued in late 2025.

The federal ministry had earlier withdrawn dealings with the national NYCN leadership and revoked the council’s certificate of registration with the Corporate Affairs Commission due to persistent infighting, factionalism, and internal confrontations.

“The federal Ministry had communicated to all stakeholders the withdrawal of the certificate of registration of the NYCN by the Corporate Affairs Commission and had subsequently withdrawn dealings with the national leadership due to deep rooted infighting, factionalisation and confrontations,” it said.

The Osun chapter is now reportedly caught in a similar dispute, prompting the state’s decision to halt engagement with the council until the committee concludes its work.

“As the Osun state chapter is also now enmeshed in a similar crisis, the government hereby suspends further dealings with the body pending the outcome of the investigation,” it said.

The government also cautioned against politicising the youth sector, emphasizing that measures have been put in place to ensure transparency, accountability, and the restoration of normal operations.
