The Nigeria Police Force has placed its commands nationwide on alert over a planned nationwide protest scheduled to hold on Monday, January 12, 2026, following intelligence reports indicating coordinated demonstrations across the country.

A police wireless message issued by the Department of Operations (DOPS) at Force Headquarters, Abuja, and dated January 11, 2026 (DTO: 112326/01/2026), disclosed that intelligence available to the police revealed that a group identified as the Occupy Nigeria Movement has concluded plans to stage what it described as a “nationwide protest.”

According to the wireless message, the protest has been tagged “Day of Presence” and is expected to take place simultaneously across all Government Houses in the country, as well as at strategic locations in Abuja, including Unity Fountain and Eagle Square.

“Intel available to Nigpol DOPS revealed that a group called Occupy Nigeria Movement has perfected plans to stage a nationwide protest tagged Day of Presence on Monday 12/01/2026,” the message stated.

The signal, addressed to Assistant Inspectors-General of Police in Zones 1–17, Mobile Police units, and all state commissioners of police and formations, directed commanders to immediately put preventive security measures in place to avert any breakdown of law and order.

“The protest is planned to hold simultaneously across all Government Houses in the country, Unity Fountain and Eagle Square Abuja,” the message added.

The police leadership further instructed all formations to ensure strict professionalism during the operation, emphasizing adherence to established rules of engagement and respect for human rights.

“He therefore directs you emplace measures to forestall breakdown of law and order,” the message read, adding that “all operatives must conduct themselves professionally and strictly observe rules of engagement and human rights in accordance with the law.”

As part of operational readiness, the wireless message also outlined a dress code directive for personnel deployed for the assignment.

“Dress code: all officers to be on camouflage until a stand-down order is given,” it said.

The message was marked “M/Immediate” and classified as “Security General,” indicating the urgency of the directive and the level of concern attached to the planned protest.
