CAF said it had reviewed recent match reports and video evidence pointing to potentially inappropriate conduct during the quarter-final encounters between Cameroon and host nation Morocco, as well as the clash between Algeria and Nigeria.

The Confederation of African Football (CAF) has condemned the unacceptable behaviour by some players and officials during the TotalEnergies CAF Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) Morocco 2025 and has opened investigations into incidents that occurred during two quarter-final matches.

In a statement issued on Monday, CAF said it had reviewed recent match reports and video evidence pointing to potentially inappropriate conduct during the quarter-final encounters between Cameroon and host nation Morocco, as well as the clash between Algeria and Nigeria.

“CAF has collected recent match reports and video evidence indicating potentially unacceptable behaviour from some players and officials and has opened an investigation into match incidents during the TotalEnergies CAF Africa Cup of Nations Morocco 2025 quarter-final fixtures between Cameroon and Morocco, as well as Algeria and Nigeria,” the statement.

The football governing body confirmed that the cases have been formally referred to its Disciplinary Board for investigation, stressing that appropriate action would be taken should any individuals involved be found guilty of wrongdoing.

“CAF has referred the matters to the Disciplinary Board for investigation and has called for appropriate action to be taken if the identified persons were to be found guilty of any wrongdoing,” it said.

CAF also disclosed that it is reviewing video footage related to an alleged incident involving members of the media who were accused of misbehaving in the mixed zone area after one of the matches.

Reiterating its stance, CAF said it strongly condemns any form of inappropriate behaviour during matches, particularly actions directed at match officials or organisers.

The body added that it would seek disciplinary measures against anyone whose conduct falls short of the professional standards expected at CAF competitions.

“CAF strongly condemns any inappropriate behaviour which occurs during matches, especially those targeting the refereeing team or match organizers,” it said.

“Appropriate actions will be sought against anyone whose behaviour is not consistent with professional conduct at CAF events.”
