January 12, 2026

The hangar, according to budgetary details, is intended to be used for aircraft within the Presidential Air Fleet, which is operated by the Nigerian Air Force on behalf of the Presidency.

A SaharaReporters' review of the 2026 budget has shown that N500 million has been earmarked by the Office of the National Security Adviser (NSA) for the construction  of a hangar designated for Presidential aircraft.

The hangar, according to budgetary details, is intended to be used for aircraft within the Presidential Air Fleet, which is operated by the Nigerian Air Force on behalf of the Presidency.

Such hangars are typically used for housing, servicing, and safeguarding aircraft, particularly high-value assets used for official state functions.

This allocation comes amid broader spending plans by the Federal Government on the Presidential Air Fleet in the 2026 fiscal year.

Previously, a review of Nigeria’s 2026 budget document showed that the Federal Government plans to spend N6 billion on the overhaul of aircraft engines in the Presidential fleet.

Details reviewed indicate that the overhaul of the 5N-FGW engines is expected to cost N3.859 billion. Checks show that 5N-FGW refers to a specific Gulfstream G550 business jet (Serial Number 5310) operated by the Nigerian Air Force (NAF) as part of the Presidential Air Fleet.

Further review of the budget documents shows that another sum of N2.19 billion was allocated for the overhaul of two Falcon 7X engines, which are also part of the aircraft used for presidential duties. In total, N6 billion is planned for the overhaul of aircraft in the Presidential fleet during the 2026 fiscal year.

Beyond engine overhauls, additional funds have been earmarked for the general operation of the fleet. Aircraft maintenance is projected to cost N1.2 billion, while aircraft fuelling is budgeted at N1.5 billion, reflecting the ongoing costs associated with keeping the fleet operational throughout the year.

Separately, earlier findings by SaharaReporters revealed significant allocations for presidential travel.

A review of the 2026 Nigerian budget showed that a sum of N6.1 billion is planned to be spent by President Bola Tinubu on international travels during the fiscal year. The amount is listed in the budget breakdown under State House operations – President.

According to the same breakdown, the President also plans to spend N873 million on local travels within the fiscal year. Vice President Kashim Shettima is expected to spend N1.3 billion on foreign trips in the 2026 fiscal year. In total, President Tinubu and his Vice, Shettima, plan to spend N7.4 billion on foreign trips in 2026.

Two Sundays ago, President Tinubu departed Lagos for Europe to continue his end-of-year break ahead of an official trip to Abu Dhabi in the United Arab Emirates (UAE). Bayo Onanuga, Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy, disclosed this in a statement shared across his social media platforms.

According to the statement, Tinubu would proceed to Abu Dhabi following an invitation from the President of the UAE, Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, to participate in the 2026 edition of the Abu Dhabi Sustainability Week Summit (ADSW 2026), slated for January.

According to the Presidency, the weeklong summit is an annual event that mobilises leaders from government, business, and society to chart the next era of sustainable development.” part of the statement read.

It was further noted that the President would return to the country after the summit.

Further review of the 2026 budget also shows that N375 million has been earmarked for the supply of foodstuffs and catering materials during the fiscal year.
